If you've lived on the Gulf Coast for any length of time, you know how the Mardi Gras schedule goes. The first two parades of the season are on Dauphin Island. And then, and only then, does Downtown Mobile take over with its first parade -- the Conde Cavaliers.

But things have been different over the last couple of years. According to al.com, the Island Mystics will no longer parade after struggling to put anything together in 2015 and 2016. They didn't parade at all in 2015, and only had a few floats in 2016. So this year, they've decided to stop parading altogether. That left a void on the second weekend of Mardi Gras parades -- one that has been quickly filled by a new "people's parade." The name of the new parade is the Town of Dauphin Island Parade -- uninspiring at best; but as a "people's parade," it models itself as a smaller version of Mobile's Joe Cain Procession. And we know how much fun that parade is!

So this weekend, February 4th, is a chance to be at the very first Town of Dauphin Island Parade. And we hope it has a much better name by next year. The ToDI (?) Parade rolls Saturday at 1PM.
